SSB’s Marsh composting site will remain open on Sunday mornings from 10am-1pm for garden waste deliveries throughout lockdown as long as sufficient volunteers are available . During lockdown: Social distancing must be observed on the site therefore minimal help can be offered for unloading garden waste or loading compost. Hedges & Woodland – ‘Steepers’ session
An event every 2 weeks that begins at 10:00am on Sunday, repeating until 20 December, 2020
The 'Steeper’s are a lively group of SSB volunteers who are in their ninth year of hedge laying and collecting wood for fuel. The group will be coppicing 25 year old trees, at Penstave Copse, to let more daylight get to the woodland floor. This will encourage natural regeneration of trees, and wildflowers, with benefits for insects, small mammals, and birds. As a result of the current pandemic situation, the decision has been taken, in consultation with lead volunteers, that The Marsh, SSB's Composting and Reuse site will remain closed for the foreseeable future. We aim to follow the spirit of the government's request for people to stay at home until the current National Lockdown ends. The volunteer rota will be re-instated nearer the time we can prepare for re-opening.
