Family bike ride to explore the Stover Trail
28 October @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm
Family bike ride to explore the Stover Trail: Join Sustrans volunteers for a led bike ride from Newton Abbot to the foothills of Dartmoor and back, starting at 10.00am at the Lodge Indoor Skate Park, Wharf Rd, Newton Abbot, TQ12 2DA. The 12-mile return ride is an easy introduction to cycling for adults and family groups. It runs mostly along the National Cycle Network route 28, following a mixture of traffic-free paths and quiet country lanes, crisscrossing the former Stover Canal and adjacent Templer way tramway, which was constructed to transport granite from Haytor to the canal and railway. Along the way we will see hedge lined meadows, wooded glades, wildlife habitats and beautiful views towards Dartmoor. There will be a refreshment stop at the lively and popular ‘Café 3 Sixty’, Bovey Tracey, returning to The Lodge at about 1-1:30pm. This ride is fairly level, with slight hills, and children aged 8 years and above accompanied by parents should manage this ride. A serviceable bike will be required which could be a road, hybrid or mountain bike. A BMX bike would not be suitable. (Adult bikes and helmets are available to hire from the Lodge.) Please wear suitable clothing for all weather and bring waterproofs, sun protection and something to drink. All under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
