Guided bike ride to discover the Dartmoor Way: Join us on a fantastic guided bike ride led by Sustrans volunteers to discover the heart of delightful Dartmoor. Starting in Ivybridge or South Brent, we'll follow scenic lanes with stunning views to discover some of Dartmoor’s finest landscapes. From secret river valleys and ancient woodlands, we'll cycle through little villages and climb up onto the high moors passing ancient tors to find Dartmoor's highest town. There will be several stops including a well-deserved lunch break. We'll be following National Cycle Network Routes 2; 272 and 27 and other quiet roads to enjoy the countryside. The route is a circular ride of 50 miles and we'll climb 5,000ft. Time allowed for this event is eight hours. We will cycle at an easy pace with rest breaks on route. There will be time to stop and take pictures too. This ride is of moderate to challenging difficulty with some steep hills and is open to anyone, but you need to be reasonably fit and be prepared for changeable weather. A back up car will be provided. Choice of starts and finish will be at the same place:

Meet for 10am start at The Old School Community Centre, Totnes Road, South Brent, TQ10 9BP (or meet for 9.15am start at the Watermark Centre, Leonard's Road, Ivybridge, PL21 0SZ). See: www.sustrans.org.uk/events/guided-bike-ride-discover-dartmoor-way.

Angie in the centre of the group of volunteer newsletter deliverers

It is with great sadness that we report on the death of Angie early in the new year.

Angie had for some time edited the quarterly newsletter and the e-bulletins for SSB, and also took responsibility for convening the Communications group.

Her commitment to the aims and achievements of SSB was second to none. She took immense care in gathering the various reports and news items and fashioned them into highly readable articles. Angie was renowned for working right up to the deadline - but always meeting it. As one of the contributors noted - "if the phone rings at 11pm on the evening before the newsletter is due at the printers…it will be Angie!”

She was not content with ‘second best’ - and would go to a huge amount of trouble to make sure the newsletter and bulletins were accurate and informative.

Angie rarely mentioned the health issues she was managing or that occasionally got in the way – she just got on with things.

Her generosity, good humour, enquiring mind and energy will be greatly missed.

Our love and condolences to Bill and the family.

Angie was a wonderful and truly dedicated friend to SSB producing both the quarterly Newsletter, regular Ebulletins and the Annual Report. Nothing was ever too much for Angie and she was regularly coming up with ideas and actions to improve communications and involvement with our membership. So many to mention... but including the competition to design the new SSB logo, the introduction of Anthony Jinman, Artic explorer, to our AGM in 2013, Pop Up Climate Change and Energy Shops, and involvement in our celebratory village events - Welcome to the Sun, The Wood Fair and our 10th Year celebrations, held in 2016.

Angie and Bill were also personal friends of many of us in SSB, and we will miss Angie’s fun and laughter, and enjoyable times spent together either working or socialising.

Thank you Angie for your time with us all, and to Bill, we will always be there for you.
