Bike Bank and Cycle Rides

The South Brent Bike Bank was established by SSB in 2015 as a community resource offering a free lease of a bike for up to 7 days and promoting sustainable transport in and around South Brent. The bikes are ideal for new riders as they are easy to use and well suited to Devon being light and with plenty of gears for those hills. Each lease includes helmet, gloves and lights to get you on the road as well as a support pack full of advice, tips for new cyclists, links to cycling organisations in the area and maps.

The Bike Bank is currently only open to adults of 18 and over.

To borrow a bike you must register on the scheme. To register:

  • Complete the registration on line
  • Or download and complete a document registration form (574 KB) and email it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Or complete a paper registration form from the envelope on the SSB notice board in the lobby of the Old School Community Centre and place it in the envelope marked 'Completed registration forms'

Once you have registered, further instructions will be emailed to you and you will be able to choose and book out a bike from the green, secure cycle store at the Old School Community Centre.

More small group  bike rides are being planned during 2017 starting in (or with a joining point in, or near to) South Brent, led by Sustrans volunteers in partnership with Sustainable South Brent. There will be rides for less experienced cyclists including families with children and some more challenging rides for more experienced riders (anyone with an electric bike would also be welcome). The SSB Bike Bank cycles will be available for free loan, on a first come basis (see SSB link).

Guided bike ride to discover the Dartmoor Way: Join us on a fantastic guided bike ride led by Sustrans volunteers to discover the heart of delightful Dartmoor. Starting in Ivybridge or South Brent, we'll follow scenic lanes with stunning views to discover some of Dartmoor’s finest landscapes. From secret river valleys and ancient woodlands, we'll cycle through little villages and climb up onto the high moors passing ancient tors to find Dartmoor's highest town. There will be several stops including a well-deserved lunch break. We'll be following National Cycle Network Routes 2; 272 and 27 and other quiet roads to enjoy the countryside. The route is a circular ride of 50 miles and we'll climb 5,000ft. Time allowed for this event is eight hours. We will cycle at an easy pace with rest breaks on route. There will be time to stop and take pictures too. This ride is of moderate to challenging difficulty with some steep hills and is open to anyone, but you need to be reasonably fit and be prepared for changeable weather. A back up car will be provided. Choice of starts and finish will be at the same place:

Meet for 10am start at The Old School Community Centre, Totnes Road, South Brent, TQ10 9BP (or meet for 9.15am start at the Watermark Centre, Leonard's Road, Ivybridge, PL21 0SZ). See:
