Community Energy in South Brent

Community Energy is where individuals and local groups come together to develop renewable energy projects larger than domestic size. South Brent uses almost £2million worth of energy each year - if a portion of this can be derived from local renewable resources the economic and environmental benefits are clear. By supporting facilities that are used by all, there are social benefits too.

In 2013 the South Brent Community Energy Society, established by members of Sustainable South Brent, installed a 225kW wind turbine at the eastern edge of the parish. Go to sbces.org.uk for more information

We are particularly grateful for the support of the following organisations who are helping us achieve our aim of a low carbon future for South Brent:

Carbon Leapfrog is a unique business-led charity that galvanises and channels high-value, professional advice from leading service providers across a range of disciplines including legal, finance, marketing and consultancy into UK and international carbon reduction projects. Through Carbon Leapfrog, SBCES had support from TLT Solicitors in Bristol with the land lease for the wind turbine project.

CooperativesUK

Co-operatives UK is the national trade body that campaigns for co-operation and works to promote, develop and unite co-operative enterprises. CoopsUK helped establish SBCES and provided support with the community share offer.
