IT Skills

Thanks to further funding by Sustainable South Brent we are able to put on more Computer/Phone sessions  ...

These sessions are a continuation of the SSB Social Media Training Project funded through a successful application to 'Awards for All'.

 Is this you?

  • You use computers and a smart phone
  • When you’re stuck, you look things up on Google
  • You’re willing to help others one evening a month

Come and be one of a team of 3 or 4. You’ll wander round the room and help people when they’re stuck – usually with an “I don’t know … let’s look that up together”.   Call me to have a chat on 07795 257849, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or come to a session and see what it’s like. “This is a fantastic service to have in the village” … help us keep it going!

Massimo reported on how our IT Skills courses went back in the Winter of 15/16 ...

Improve your skills with Computers and Smart Phones: Fortnightly sessions every other Thursday evening between 7pm and 9pm in the Beacon Room at the Old School Community Centre (to ensure a place, please tell us you are coming). Thursday dates for the rest of 2017: 7 & 21 September; 5 & 19 October; 2, 16 & 30 November; finishing on Thursday 14 December 2017.

Bring your computer, tablet, phone and problems, questions or just things to learn. Helpers circulate and when you’re stuck say things like "try this …" and "I don’t know either … let’s Google it". This gives people real confidence to try stuff out for themselves. We’ve been doing this for two years now … and it really works! So come along … to just one or a few sessions. All abilities are welcomed - from complete beginners to experienced users. Don’t miss this opportunity! Free - donations welcome. Any questions or to book a place - email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or ring 07795 257849. See www.itsorted.org.uk/southbrent/ for full details.

These are not structured “lessons” and will not be on any particular topic. Our approach will be: try it yourself – ask for help – we give you pointers – we show you how.

There will be a maximum of 16 people, with up to four trainers on hand.

I have a question that isn't answered here

Where are the sessions held?

The sessions will be held at the Old School Community Centre in South Brent. Click here to visit the centre's web site and click here for directions.

Do I need to book or can I just turn up?

You can just turn up. However to ensure a place we recommend that you let us know, as there are limited places. It would also help us to know numbers beforehand.

How do I book?

To book a place on any session, please send an email with your name and phone number and sessions you would like to attend to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

OR (if you do not have access to a computer) call or text 07795 257849

How much do they cost?

They are free, although we welcome any donations which will go towards putting more sessions on.

Do I need to own a computer, laptop or smart phone?

You do not need to own a computer or smart phone. However please read the question below.

You will get more out of the sessions if you are able to put into practise what you have learnt as soon as possible (within the next few days). However, this could be using one of the computers at the Old School Community Centre or a friend's computer.

Do I need to bring a computer with me?

If you have a laptop, then please do bring it with you.

If you don't, then please let us know by the Monday before the session and we may be able to supply one for the evening.

What else do I need to bring?

Paper and a pen.

Also write down what you want to get out of the session, your questions and things you want to try out before the session.

Who are the trainers/teachers?

This year we are using a wide range of people (experience, ages, male and female), all of whom live or work in the village.

Who is coordinating this project

Massimo Giannuzzi - with support from John Gower and Darren Schroeder and Penny Wainwright (SSB Chair and Trustee) and the other trainers.

Are you planning to put more sessions on?

With the January sessions, we have used up the funding we received, so these will be the last.

Why are the sessions free?

Sustainable South Brent is funding this set of sessions. Any donations collected on the night will go towards putting more sessions on.
